Showtime at Gosforth

A BIG crowd – and a bumper show – is expected at Gosforth on Saturday.

The occasion is Gosforth Show and the organisers are prepared for any kind of weather and are confident of another good turnout from locals and visitors to the area alike.

One of the many enthusiastic volunteers, Vera Lowrey, wife of show chairman Alan, said: “Last year was a good one but this time I think we can made it ever better.

“What we’re most hoping for is a really good fun day, one that everybody enjoys and there will certainly be something for everyone.

“Gosforth Show is for the community, we value the support and our big wish is for a nice sunny day will bring people out in their droves.”

And the Society has dispelled any doubts that any more heavy rain might mean cancellation – thanks to more funding a set of all-weather mats has been bought to ease access into the showfield in the event of heavy ground water.

Horses, cattle and sheep will be to the fore with a lot of special interest surrounding an array of rare breed sheep. Jacobs sheep will also be making an appearance along with what’s dubbed ‘the dancing sheep.’

Another quirky feather will be a dog and duck display – and Jason the Juggling Jester.

A major dog show, poultry, terrier racing, handicrafts and horticulture, plus the ever popular equestrian events and children’s sports are among the attractions, and illustrate the show’s wide appear and this year it also hosts one of the Cumberland & Westmorland championship events.

Keeping, and at the same time moving with the times, makes Gosforth Show fresh and the attraction it is, said Mrs Lowrey.
