SHEPLEY Engineers Limited, the major engineering specialist with its head offices at the Westlakes Science and Technology Park, is celebrating a number of achievements including national recognition for its exemplary health and safety performance.
The Cumbrian based Shepley Group, which currently employs 640 staff and includes PPS Electrical, West Cumberland Engineering and Mothersill Engineering, has received significant recognition from the Royal Society for the Protection of Accidents in its 2012 awards.
Shepley Engineers received a coveted Order of Distinction in recognition of 16 consecutive years of exemplary safety performance. PPS Electrical received a Presidents Award and it was another Silver Award for West Cumberland Engineering.
The company has a national portfolio of work providing a wide range of integrated engineering services. Its exemplary safety performance at the Sellafield site has also been recognised with a 2012 Resident Engineers Safety Award.
It’s been over three years since the group had a lost time event at the Sellafield site and this has included over three million man hours of operations.
In recognition of these achievements, the company is collaborating with a number of the Sellafield directorate teams and providing donations to some deserving local causes. A £2,000 donation has been presented to West Cumbria Hospice at Home to support its palliative and end-of-life care programme. Another £4,000 has also been pledged to other local causes, these benefactors will be announced later in the year.
Shepley Group’s managing director, Paul Scott, said: “We are very proud of our achievements in this area which stem from an extraordinary amount of commitment across our delivery teams. We have worked hard to improve health and safety related communications across our businesses involving engagement at all levels.
“Our initiatives are working but as always we will remain alert to complacency. The health, safety and welfare of our staff and all stakeholders involved in our activities will remain at the top of our agenda.”
