Sellafield suffers power loss
Published at 12:49, Friday, 04 May 2012
PARTS of the Sellafield site temporarily lost power on Friday morning.
Operations on the site had returned to normal by Friday afternoon, and a spokesman said that it was “not a nuclear-related incident”.
The spokesman added: “There is no evidence of adverse condition as a result of this power loss.
“There was no release of radioactivity, none of the workforce was affected by the incident and there was no impact to the public or the environment.
“In accordance with our approach of conservative decision-making, and as a very precautionary measure, a Site Incident was declared immediately following the partial loss of power.
“The power was quickly restored and the site has now returned to normal operations. Again, we stress that this was a non nuclear incident.
“Site access has been returned to normal. We apologise to the community for any inconvenience that resulted from potential disruption to the traffic on local roads as a result of temporary restrictions on access to the site.”
