SAFELY DOES IT: The Ophthalmology Department at the West Cumberland Hospital is now £1,000 better off thanks to the safe working of workers from Vinci Construction UK and Sellafield Ltd. The combined workforce has worked for 28 days without a lost-time accident, with a contribution for each day being made into a company charity fund. Since the scheme started, the total the two companies have now handed out to charities and good causes is currently standing at £34,000. Accepting the cheque from senior safety officers Tom Dougan from Sellafield Ltd and Paul Porter, right, from Vinci on behalf of the department is consultant ophthalmologist William Seller and Sister Susan Irving.
