Pupils stepping out for challenge

PUPILS at Moresby Primary School are putting the final touches for what they hope will be a triumphant Rock Challenge performance.
Forty-seven pupils will head off to Grimsby on June 22 to compete in the Northern Finals of the performance contest, having wowed the judges and winning a host of trophies at the Cumbrian heats in Carlisle last year.
The pupils from Years 3 to 6 have been involved in every step of the production, including costume design and choreography, with rehearsal time now increasing as the finals approach.
The theme of their performance is based on World War Two, with the key messages of prejudice and freedom.
Under the tagline of ‘Dancing Makes Our Heart Speak Freedom’, the pupils will tell the story of how a population uses performance to rebel against an oppressive leader.
Following the Grimsby show, the school, which recently achieved its Artsmark accreditation, will return to the Sands Centre in Carlisle on July 5 for this year’s Cumbrian finals.
