Artsmark: Pupils celebrate in the art gallery

The school was recognised for its outstanding achievement in dance, music, arts and drama.

Mel Narongchai, Year 4 and 5 teacher and arts coordinator, said Haverigg incorporates the arts into every subject. She said: “The award is recognition of what we do and love. As a school, it is important that parents know their children are coming to a creative place.

“The kids love it and are absolutely brilliant at whatever they do. It’s part of your identity as a school. If you look to what you do as a strength, and apply for that kind of recognition, that is just a huge benefit.”

The school boasts an art gallery, filled with exhibitions of the children’s work. After this year’s success, the school is aiming for the Artsmark Gold status next year.

Mrs Narongchai said: “We get the arts in to everything we can. You’ll find drama in maths and dancing in science.

“We won’t be changing how we do things now, the award just makes it known.

“You can teach the children and go along the journey with them, but with their sheer creativity and ability to adapt, there are just no boundaries for them.”
