Pru Jupe (Lib Dem candidate)
Last updated at 11:55, Thursday, 08 November 2012
PRU JUPE (Liberal Democrats) is 55 and lives at Beetham, near Milnthorpe. She is a barrister, specialising in family work and child protection, and has been a member of Beetham Parish Council since 2003 and a member of South Lakeland District Council, representing the Beetham and Arnside ward, since 2005.
She says: “I’m a barrister specialising in family work and child protection. I worked as a solicitor regularly appearing in the criminal courts representing my clients fairly without fear or favour.
“I’m passionate about justice. Working with the police for 30 years, I have great respect for them, so often putting others’ safety above their own.
“I’m wholly committed to treating all our citizens equally and fairly, whatever their background, ethnic origin or sexual orientation.
“Even though I am the Liberal Democrat candidate, I’m clear that this election should be about the best candidate and not about party politics. If elected, the needs of all Cumbrians will be my priority.
“Although Cumbria is one of the safest places in the country, we cannot be complacent. We have our own difficult issues. Rural crime must not be overlooked.
“I will ensure the police become a more visible presence to local residents, preventing crime and bringing criminals to justice. I promise value for money for Cumbrian taxpayers and will endeavour to keep the police council tax as low as possible.
“I pledge to work with and support the voluntary sector in the delivery of crime prevention and in developing restorative justice. Drug and alcohol abuse, domestic and sexual offences and anti-social behaviour need to be tackled head-on.
“I believe that I have the skills, energy and dedication required to do this extremely challenging job. I am ready and willing to rise to that challenge in the service of every person in Cumbria.”
