Police make arrests after tip-off

FIVE people were arrested in Cleator Moor on Monday on suspicion of conspiring to commit a burglary – after a tip-off to the police from a concerned member of the public.
Officers were called at 3am from a resident concerned about people acting suspiciously in the area. They subsequently arrested five men from London, aged between 19 and 23, on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary. They all remained in police custody yesterday (Wednesday).
Two vehicles were also seized within the Cleator Moor area, both believed to have been used by the suspects.
And following searches of properties in the town which were linked to the suspects, a cannabis farm was located and dismantled by the police.
Detective Chief Inspector Keith Capstick, who is leading the investigation, said: “Following the diligence by a member of the public who reported suspicious people in the local area, we were able to quickly arrest and detain five men.
“We have also been able to locate and dismantle a cannabis farm. Enquiries into all matters continue.”
Cumbria Police encourages people to report any suspicious activity in their area on 101 – or if a crime is being committed at the time, dial 999.
