Plans for new traffic wardens

TWO new traffic wardens look set to be employed as Copeland Council takes back responsibility for on-street parking next month.
Copeland will earn a £27,500 subsidy from Cumbria County Council for providing the service itself – instead of Allerdale Council – allowing it to employ two new traffic wardens and manage the service from its offices in Whitehaven town centre from September 1.
An agreement has been reached and the new warden posts will be advertised internally in the council initially, and then rolled out to the public if no suitable internal candidate is found.
Although the transfer is yet to be rubber-stamped, Copeland’s bid has been approved by the county council ‘in principle’, and it will end a long period of uncertainty regarding the borough’s parking situation.
A ‘free-for-all’ period existed last year when nobody was responsible for enforcing parking regulations, between Cumbria County Council’s contract ending in March and Allerdale Council taking over the role on a temporary basis in November.
This resulted in motorists being able to ignore double-yellow lines and other on-street restrictions because nobody was issuing parking tickets.
When the new agreement comes into effect, further to monitoring the parking situation on Copeland’s streets, the borough council will also provide the ‘customer interface’ for the service, at the council headquarters on Catherine Street. That department will also be responsible for issuing residents’ parking permits.
The county council is legally responsible for enforcing on-street restrictions but hives off the job to the districts.

start by putting tickets on the buses, for however ammount of tickets ive seen ive not seen one on a bus outside (roc bar)...if they wont use the bus station they shouldnt be allowed to dump them here there and everywhere...

more traffic wardens-perhaps the council will send them up to mirehouse shops-they recently spent £10k on move ing the bus stop and make ing some parking bays - stil the lazy park in the bus stop - often the last vechicle that can get into the bus stop - is - yes - the bus... this blocks the road ; no fault of the bus ; it has to stop to drop / pick up passengers...
