Pit Parade to celebrate mining heritage
Published at 11:09, Thursday, 28 June 2012
SCHOOLS in Copeland are invited to get involved in a community event that celebrates the heritage of Whitehaven and the surrounding area.
The Pit Parade will form part of this year’s Whitehaven Carnival (July 7) and, in advance of the event, schoolchildren are invited to a series of workshops to design a banner that will lead the parade.
They will also learn a song, Celebrate The Mines – Remembers The Miners, to be performed during the carnival.
Organised by The Beacon, Haig Museum and New Arts North, the workshops are available all day on July 4 and on the afternoon of July 6.
Any schools interested in getting involved are asked to contact Russell Burbush at New Arts North on 07799627803 or info@newartsnorth.co.uk.
