MIREHOUSE vicar the Rev Chris Casey is planning to undertake the 13-mile Great North Run in October.
Mr Casey, priest-in-charge at St Andrew’s, will be running the Newcastle half-marathon for Mercy Ships, a Christian organisation that sends ships to harbours around the world to provide medical help for those who can’t afford it.
“Their work is simply transforming and wonderful,’’ said Mr Casey who is asking people to sponsor him (go to www.justgiving.com/chriscasey).
Information about the work done by Mercy Ships can be seen on their website www.mercyships.org.
Besides looking after St Andrew’s parish, Mr Casey is Wing Chaplain for Cumbria and North Lancashire Air Training Corps and police chaplain for West Cumbria.
He spent 18 years in the RAF before being ordained.
