ONE of Whitehaven’s oldest residents was delighted to get a congratulatory telegram from the Queen last week.
Florrence Lavery pictured with telegram from the Queen on her 100th birthday.
It was on March 18 that Florrence Lavery, from Richmond, Hensingham celebrated her 100th birthday.
Mrs Lavery was born in Whitehaven and worked for many years as an usherette and cashier at The Gaiety cinema in town.
She recalled the prices as being 3d for a seat in the stalls and 6d in the more romantic rear stalls.
Besides the royal telegram, Mrs Lavery received numerous bouquets and cards from her family, neighbours, carers and well-wishers.
