A second occupant, a 43-year-old man from Salterbeck, sustained serious injuries and was transferred from West Cumberland Hospital to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle where his condition was stable.
Police are appealing for witnesses. Contact Sgt Paul Brown on 0845 3300 247.
