THE charity race between a fell runner and his car-driving father was won at the weekend – by the fell runner.
Ian Davies ran from Wasdale Head over Great Gable to Seathwaite in Borrowdale, while his father, Andrew, carefully drove there.
They admit the challenge was a “bit daft” but is has helped raise £500 towards the repairs fund for the roof of St Michael’s All Saints church in Wasdale.
Andrew stuck religiously to speed limits and “suspects Ian had bribed every farmer in West Cumbria to take their tractors out onto the roads”.
It took him 1 hour 41 minutes.
Ian completed the 10 km run (including the summit of Great Gable) in 1 hour 26 minutes, so was the outright winner.
