Paul’s wheelie good idea

PAUL Townsend spends much of his time in a wheelchair because of his MS but he’s not letting that stop him from taking part in this year’s Cumbrian Run.

While many people would flinch at the idea at having to run 13.2 miles, Paul is keen to have a go.

And after all, the 47-year-old from Cumberland Road, Hensingham, has previously notched up four London marathons and a Paris marathon.

However, even Paul’s not keen on doing the Cumbrian Run in a standard-issue NHS wheelchair so he’s hoping to raise the £2,000 needed for a light-weight wheelchair. He’s already been offered some help from Roland Hill and Sport Mobility but is hoping other companies can donate some money.

Paul said: “I have been doing some training along the Wagon Road of up to half a mile but I have to do it in my basic NHS wheelchair.”

Paul is supported by his wife, Allison, and three children.

Allison appears to have been ‘volunteered’ for the Cumbrian Run as well!
