Keep going James!

DR KAREN Greene’s St Bees’ home this week provided a welcome stop-over for her 19-year-old nephew who is in the middle of a mammoth sponsored walk from John O’Groats to Lands End, scaling the three peaks of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon on the way.

James Ellen, a music student on a gap year from his studies, is hoping to raise around £3,000 to divide between three charities, including Cancer Research UK. His Aunt Karen, a doctor who works in anaesthetics and A&E at West Cumberland Hospital, is on sick leave from her job, undergoing treatment for cancer.

James, who set off on April 12, was scaling Scafell Pike on Monday. He expects the marathon journey of 1,000 miles to take him four months.

James is a former pupil of Mill Hill School, London, whose wartime students were evacuated to St Bees School during the Second World War.

His other charitable causes are the Army Benevolent Fund and the Combined Cadet Corps of Drums (Mill Hill School).
