Parishes help to extend bus service

THE PROVISION of a bus service between Frizington and Cockermouth revived last October has been extended for another six months, thanks to the parish councils of Frizington & Arlecdon, Ennerdale & Kinniside and Dean who have agreed to continue with subsidy funding.
The Wednesday 217 service continues to pick up new passengers and it is hoped use will increase once visitors arrive to use it in the summer months.
School children in the parishes that fund the route were invited to design artwork for new posters and timetables advertising the service and now, after a difficult task for judges, three have been chosen as winners. They are Peter Hopley from Ennerdale and Kinniside School, William Addiman from Arlecdon Primary and Lawson Degler from Frizington Primary. Each received a £10 book token.
The 217 leaves The Griffin at Frizington at 9.30am and at 1.45pm. It returns from Cockermouth Main Street at 12.30pm and 5pm. En route it calls at Arlecdon, Rowrah, Kirkland, Ennerdale Bridge, Lamplugh, Crossgates, Ullock, Branthwaite, Dean, Pardshaw, Deanscales and Eaglesfield (Wednesdays only).
