Olympics arrive early for Copeland’s ‘torch’ relay

THE Olympics have arrived early in Copeland.

An Olympic torch designed by pupils from Whitehaven School is doing the rounds and was handed over between the neighbouring communities of Lowca and Parton.

School children from Lowca Primary and St Bridget’s, Parton, did the honours at the handover.

“The experience has helped the children get into the Olympic mood and has sparked off our curriculum topic on Ancient Greece and the Olympics,” said Lowca’s headteacher David Fasham.

A number of Whitehaven School’s feeder schools are taking part on the Olympic torch’s journey and it will continue over the coming weeks.
