THE outstanding behaviour of children at a nursery school has been praised by government inspectors.

Frizington Nursery School has been applauded in its latest Ofsted report which rates it as a good school. Headteacher Lesley Savage said that she is delighted with the result.

“It takes a lot of hard work from dedicated staff and governors and extremely supportive parents to run such a successful nursery school and everyone deserves a share of the praise, especially all the very special children who come to our school who impress us daily with their enthusiasm for learning and outstanding behaviour,” she said.

The school on Frizington’s Main Street was awarded as having “good” aspects in three of the four areas it was judged on – achievements of pupils, quality of teaching and leadership and management. The fourth category, the behaviour and safety of pupils, was deemed as outstanding.

Inspector Sue Sharkey said that the school, which has 30 three to five-year-olds, provides children with a rich and exciting environment where they all learn well and flourish and that parents are delighted with the good quality of education their children receive.

The nursery school’s staff were commended for providing a wide range of exciting activities that hold children’s attention.

Speaking about the children’s outstanding behaviour at the school, Ms Sharkey said that they quickly develop friendships, obviously enjoy school and have extremely good attitudes to learning.

“Children cooperate very happily with each other and thoroughly enjoy the responsibility they have to keep their classroom clean and tidy,” she added.

“They clean tables, sweep the floor, put books and games away and move around the rooms like “busy bees”.

The headteacher has been recognised for the good leadership she provides, stating she is “dedicated to improving the school”.

It also states that Ms Savage is well supported by all of the staff and governing body who together are committed to doing their best for the children.

Advice given by inspectors to improve the school so it is outstanding is to ask children questions to challenge them to think harder; provide opportunities for children to use numbers to solve simple problems and to involve parents.

Ms Savage said: “We value the inspectors’ advice on what we can improve further and are delighted that we had identified these points ourselves and are working on them already.

“We are confident that the school will continue to improve and provide even more exciting opportunities for the children who come here in the future.”
