NuGen: 'We're committed to nuclear new-build'

Have your say

Yes Monty if all that money had been poured into alternative green sources then they would of wasted a massive amount of money on wind turbines that are useless. I suggest you look at the French nuclear program. They are doing quite well at making nuclear commercial. You dream of something that will not happen... if you use electricity accept that you must gather that energy from somewhere and green options are not reliable enough.

.. and don't forget the Duddon estuary Chuck. A barage would not only provide lots of electricity, shorten the tortuous road and rail routes to the south and provide a potential home for the spoil excavated from any underground nuclear repository but also transform the economics of Millom and south Copeland in general.

Nuclear power never has and never will be commercial. It only exists because Governments decided they needed Nuclear Weapons. If all that money had been poured into research on alternative green sources of energy we'd be laughing now. there's no gonhg back.

The Solway Firth, Morecambe Bay, Mersey and Severn estuaries could provide lots of electricity and much needed water, together with on and off shore wind farms. Why cling to a discredited nuclear industry which has never, and never will, provide affordable energy and creates very long lasting problems. Sellafield will keep Copeland and its Council Leader going forever as it cleans up its mess, never mind creating more.

It has been known for a long number of years that new nuclear power stations will require heavy subsidy at every level: construction, operation, decommissioning and waste treatment * storage. Anyone telling you different will be guilty of deliberate misrepresentation.
