OAP injured in hit and run

AN elderly woman was injured in a hit-and-run incident in Chapel Street, Whitehaven, about 5.45pm, on Thursday last week.

Police say the 87-year-old was knocked to the ground by a white Mercedes 4x4.

She suffered foot and minor head injuries and was taken by ambulance to the West Cumberland Hospital.

Police officers are anxious to trace the male driver of the Mercedes.

La’al Big Band

WEST Cumbria’s La’al Big Band will play at the Seacote Hotel, St Bees, on Saturday.

The evening will feature a programme of swing and jazz favourites from the libraries of Frank Sinatra, Glenn Miller and Ella Fitzgerald. There will be a bar and raffle, and dancing is welcome.

Music begins at 8.30pm and admission costs £4. Tickets available from the hotel on 01946 822300.

Stolen biscuits

STOLEN biscuits worth £1.89 ended up costing Carlo Raymond Bone £175.

He pleaded guilty at West Cumbria Courthouse to the theft from Tesco. A fine of £75, plus costs of £85 and a £15 surcharge were imposed on Bone, 27, of South View Road, Whitehaven.
