A SMALL domestic wind turbine has been granted planning permission in Egremont.LOCAL causes using St Nicholas’ Centre, Whitehaven, and looking for support for their fund-raising this month are: Rotary Club (May 5), Breast Feeding Awareness Group (May 12), West Cumbria Dyslexic Association (May 19) and St Bees Pre-School (May 26).
Domestic wind turbine allowed
Members of Copeland’s planning panel approved plans for the 15m turbine on land near Ellerbeck Barns.
The land already hosts one turbine, and the primary use for the new one will be to power the applicant’s self-catering holiday cottage.
The application was the subject of one objection, from a neighbour concerned about visual intrusion and noise.
In a further application, councillors approved a 50m-high meteorological mast close to Oxenriggs Farm, near Egremont.
Its purpose is to collect data to assess the location as a possible site for wind energy development.
Haile and Wilton Parish Council objected to the plan, and six individual letters were sent to Copeland Council.
