Astronomer to give lecture

THREATS to the Earth from asteroids and comets is the title of a free lecture held at Westlakes on October 18.

Dr Robin Catchpole, a senior astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, will present the talk at The Samuel Lindow Building at 6.30pm. He will look at the history, origin and effects of these impacts.

10-week curfew

AN Egremont man must comply with a 10-week curfew, a district judge has ruled.

Joseph Kilpatrick Alexander, 53, of Royal Drive, admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause violence in an incident at Whitehaven.

The case was heard at West Cumbria Courthouse last week. He was ordered to stay at his home address between 7pm and 6am each day and must also pay £85 court costs.

Library hours

WHITEHAVEN Library will have new opening hours from next Monday.

The changes follow a consultation with the public regarding what times suit them best.

New times are Monday, 9am-5pm; Tuesday, 9am-6pm; Wednesday, 9am-5pm; Thursday, 9am-6pm; Friday, 9am-5pm; Saturday, 9am-4pm and Sunday, noon to 4pm.
