Art lectures start with Wordsworth

ST Bees Arts Society will be kicking off their season of lectures next week.

Topics will include maritime art from the 17th century to the present day, churches and high crosses in Anglo-Saxon Northumbria, Picasso’s women, Rubens and Antwerp in 1613.

The season begins with Dr Paul O’Keeffe giving an illustrated lecture about Wordsworth and Haydon on Wednesday, September 26 at 8pm at the St Bees Management Centre.

The annual subscription is £25, single sessions £6.50 with students £1.

THE Parish Of Whitehaven is carrying out a community survey to gauge views on how it can improve its role in the life of the town.

An anonymous questionnaire asks people for their thoughts on how the parish, which operates St James Church, St Nicholas Centre and the High Street Community Centre, can play as full a part as possible.

New curfew

RUSSELL William Burns, 26, of Burnmoor Avenue, Whitehaven, has been made the subject of an eight week curfew under which he must remain at his home address between 6am and-7pm, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The requirement is part of a new community order imposed on Burns by West Cumbria magistrates to replace an existing one, ordered in June.

Burns pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified at Low Road, Whitehaven on May 27. Costs of £50 were imposed.

Alzhiemer help

THE Alzheimers Society has started another ‘Singing for the Brain’ group to support people with dementia and their carers in West Cumbria.

Peugeot sought

THE wing mirror of a car was broken off when it was hit by another vehicle while parked outside the Cottage Chippy in Main Street, Hensingham.The Vauxhall Corsa was damaged at 6.15pm on September 10.

Police are keen to speak to the driver of a black Peugeot that was seen with ladders on its roof and signs stuck to the rear window. Call PC Buchanan at Whitehaven Police Station on 101.

Cars damaged

OFFICERS are appealing for information after a Citroen C3 and silver Ford Ka parked in Hensingham were damaged.

A blue Citroen C3 parked on Main Street was damaged between 3pm and 10pm on August 30 while a silver Ford Ka parked in Church Lane was damaged between 4.45pm and 5.45pm on September 12.
