Attempted robbery charge
A WHITEHAVEN man has appeared in court charged with attempting to rob a town centre shop.
Sean Morrin, 27, of Brakeside Gardens, is alleged to have committed the attempted robbery at Timpson Shoe Repair, on King Street, on Tuesday, September 4.
Mr Morrin is also charged with assaulting a police officer during the episode.
He did not enter any pleas when he appeared before West Cumbria Courthouse on Thursday last week. Both cases were sent to Carlisle Crown Court where his first appearance is on September 24.
Firearms charge
A MAN has appeared before a judge after allegedly taking a gun into a takeaway.
Ryan Dixon, 21, was arrested after an incident at the Chattanooga takeaway in Main Street, Egremont, late on the night of August 16.
He was later charged with possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, racially- aggravated assault, assault, criminal damage and theft.
At a preliminary hearing at Carlisle Crown Court, Mr Dixon, of Main Street, Frizington, spoke only to confirm his name. He was not asked to enter any pleas to the charges he faces.
That will happen when he next appears in court, on October 29. In the meantime he was remanded in custody.
Wardens delayed
NEW traffic wardens covering Whitehaven will not start until next month.
A shake-up of on-street parking resulted in Copeland Council employing the wardens as it takes over responsibility for parking in the town.
It was expected that they would begin their duties at the beginning of September, but this has now been put back a month. The council says it is because legal issues are being sorted out in the contracts.
Failed to stop
POLICE officers in Egremont are investigating a fail-to-stop collision between two cars.
A Ford Ghia, parked in the car park of the Co-op supermarket, was struck by an unknown red vehicle that left the scene without stopping. The incident took place on Saturday between 4pm and 4.30pm.
Car damaged
A TEENAGER was spotted damaging a car in Cleator Moor. The culprit, said to be aged around 14, damaged a Ford Puma that was parked on High Street at 7.10pm on Friday.
He was wearing a blue top and was in the company of three men. Witnesses are asked to call 101.
