Driver cut free

A MOTORIST had to be freed by firefighters after his car overturned in Keekle Terrace, Cleator Moor, in the early hours of Sunday.

He was taken to the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven for a check-up but was not seriously hurt. The road was partially blocked.

Sheep stolen

OVER 100 sheep have been stolen from a farm at Waberthwaite.

The animals – 40 ewes and 68 lambs – were taken between August 1 and 17. The ewes are identifiable by a red marking on their side.

Factory fire

FIREFIGHTERS dealt with a rubbish fire in an empty factory unit at Sneckyeat Industrial Estate on Saturday evening. They believe it was started deliberately. A large fan was used to ventilate the building. Damage was limited.

Man released

A MAN arrested on suspicion of stealing property left outside flood-hit homes in Seascale has been released without charge.

The 48-year-old, who lives in Seascale, was arrested in Railway Terrace on Friday evening. He was held in custody overnight and released the next day.

Lead stolen

LEAD thieves are being sought by the police in Whitehaven.

It was taken from the roof of the old mansion at Hollins Close. The damage was only noticed this week when an inside ceiling collapsed, causing £4,000 of damage.

Home break-in

A HOME in Frizington has suffered a break-in.

The Main Street house was targeted between August 23 and 25 and property was damaged.

Man, 21, fined

A CLEATOR Moor man has been fined £140 for urinating in public.

Darren Christopher Adair, 21, of John Colligan Walk, admitted the offence at West Cumbria Courthouse last week. He was ordered to pay £50 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
