Farm scheme extended
THE deadline has been extended for people to apply for a farming traineeship.
The Farmer Network has secured funding to run another Cumbria Hill Farm Succession Scheme from November and is looking for up to eight trainees, ideally aged over 18, who will work with it over a two-year period gaining work experience and being mentored on up to four different hill farms in Cumbria.
The trainees will also be enrolled on an apprentice training course and participate in additional training on skills such as tractor driving, ATV use, walling, hedge laying, sheep dog handling and other hill farming skills.
The deadline for applications has been extended to September 14. Further details and an application pack are available from the Farmer Network office on 01768 868615 or from Dorothy Wilkinson on 015394 37281.
Cyclist hit by car
POLICE officers are appealing for information after a cyclist was knocked off his bike near the Yottenfews roundabout, near the Sellafield car park.
The incident took place on August 23 at around 5am. The man was treated by Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) staff at the scene.
Anyone witnesses are asked to contact PC Frank Paine on 101.
Wine stolen
STEALING two bottles of wine from a Whitehaven supermarket has landed a woman with a £65 fine.
Kylie Frances Townsley, 24, of Gameriggs Road, admitted taking the alcohol, worth £8, from Morrisons.
Magistrates at West Cumbria Courthouse ordered her to pay £85 costs with a £15 victim surcharge.
Metal theft
THIEVES stole all the pipes and leading from the guttering, of a house in The Crescent, Cleator Moor. The theft occurred within the past two weeks and was discovered on Friday.
