Road conviction quashed
A CLEATOR Moor man has successfully appealed against a conviction for failing to comply with a white line road marking.
Dr George Michael Rea, 50, of Highfield Road, was originally found guilty of the charge at West Cumbria Courthouse but an appeal heard at Carlisle Crown Court on Friday quashed the conviction.
Rescue team search for nine
A RESCUE team spent nine hours searching for a group of walkers lost on England’s highest mountain.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team was alerted after the seven reported themselves lost at 7.45pm after reaching the 978m (3,209ft) summit of Scafell Pike on Thursday.
Nine team members took part in the search and five of the party were eventually found on neighbouring peak Scafell. Two others, who had split from their companions, were found in Upper Eskdale.
Road closed overnight
BOOTLE’S Church Road will be closed overnight between Netherton Way and the roundabout leading on to Bridge Road from tomorrow until Saturday, August 25, for resurfacing work.
The work will be carried out between 10pm and 5am and a diversion will be in place.
Drunk and disorderly charge
BEING drunk and disorderly in a public place has landed a Frizington man with a £75 fine.
Jonathan James Brammer, 26, of Priory Close, admitted the offence at West Cumbria Courthouse last week.
He was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
