Damaged road closed for repairs

A ROAD near St Bees has been closed as an emergency measure due to danger from a collapsed culvert and damaged retaining wall.

The U4034 Byersteads road has been closed by Cumbria Highways from 880 metres north of its junction with the B5345 for a distance of around 220 metres.

The road was closed on Monday, July 23, and is expected to take four weeks to repair, depending on the weather.

The foundations of the wall had washed away and there was a concern it could collapse onto the road.

18-month drive ban for man, 21

A MAN has been banned from driving for 18 months following a string of motoring offences.

Josh Dillon, 21, of Irt Avenue, Whitehaven, admitted drink-driving, taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent and driving without a licence.

He admitted all the offences at West Cumbria Courthouse.

A breath test revealed Dillon had 86mcgms in 100mls of breath. The limit is 35.

He was ordered to pay a £150 fine, with £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Drink-driver given ban

A DRINK-DRIVER has been given a 16-month driving ban.

David Keith Simpson, 34, of Little Mill, Egremont, admitted the offence at West Cumbria Courthouse last week.

The court heard that Simpson had driven along the Main Street in Egremont.

A breath test revealed that he had 58mcgms of alcohol in 100mls of breath.

The limit is 35.

He was fined £400, with £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
