Turbine looks set to be refused

A PROPOSED wind turbine that has attracted strong local opposition looks set to be refused planning permission.

Haile and Wilton Parish Council and nine local residents have objected against the plans for the 34.4m-high turbine at High House Farm, Wilton.

And members of Copeland Council’s planning panel were yesterday being recommended to refuse the application. They were told: “It would introduce a single isolated, prominent feature incongruous in its surroundings which would have a materially harmful effect on the character and appearance of this sensitive rural location.”

The turbine is planned to provide electricity to the dairy farm to help it stay viable. But the objectors express concerns about visual impact, noise, flicker and refer to the turbine as “an unnecessary blot”.
