Chernobyl friends have fun
A GROUP of youngsters from Chernobyl has enjoyed a month-long visit to West Cumbria.
The seven youngsters have taken part in exciting activities and have had various medical and dental checks.
A fundraising pie and pea supper was held at Cleator Moor Civic Hall, by the local branch of Friends of Chernobyl’s Children.
A total of £2,012 was raised and the money has gone towards the travel costs and upkeep of the youngsters, who stayed with families around the county during the visit.
105mph driver fined £190
A MOTORIST speeding at 105mph in a 60mph zone has been banned from driving for 56 days.
Matthew David Ward, 18, of The Villas, Egremont, admitted the offence at West Cumbria Courthouse last week.
A speed indicator device had recorded Ward driving 45mph over the speed limit on the A66 Stainburn bypass. He was ordered to pay a £190 fine, with £50 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
Dog fouling fine for owner
A CLEATOR Moor man has been fined £55 for allowing his dog to foul.
Kenneth David Matthew Fleming, 49, of Cragg Road, who failed to pick up his dog’s faeces, had his case proved in absence at West Cumbria Courthouse last week.
He was ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge and £100 costs to Copeland Council.
£55 fine for pet’s mess
A WOMAN has been fined £55 for allowing her dog to foul near Moresby Rugby Club.
The case against Michelle Field, 48, of Moresby Parks, was proved in absence at West Cumbria Courthouse last week. Magistrates ordered her to pay a £15 victim surcharge with £100 costs to Copeland Council.
