Three-car collision closes road but no serious injuries

A THREE-CAR collision closed a major road in Whitehaven last week.

A Nissan Micra pulled out of the junction from Mirehouse Road onto the A595, say police officers, where it collided with a Hyundai Amica and a Kia Cee’d.

Only minor injuries were reported in the incident which happened just before 8.45pm on Thursday.

Police officers worked for an hour to clear the road, and fire crews attended the scene as a precaution.

The Nissan was being driven by a 33-year-old man, the Hyundai by a 49-year-old woman, and the Kia by 42-year-old man, all of whom are from Whitehaven.

Inquest into hospital death

AN inquest was opened and adjourned on Monday into the death of Raymond Blight, 75, of Clayton Avenue, Cleator Moor, who died at the West Cumberland Hospital last Thursday (June 21). Assistant deputy coroner Claire Madden took evidence of identification from his daughter, Lynne Blight.

Burgled while owners slept

A SEASCALE home was targeted by thieves while the occupants slept upstairs.

The home on The Banks was broken into overnight on June 23/24 and cash and jewellery were stolen.

Compensation for PCs

LEWIS Brown must pay £75 each in compensation to two police officers after he was convicted of assaulting them.

Brown, 24, of Bransty Row, Whitehaven, admitted the offences against PCs Greaves and Wright on June 4 at Whitehaven. Magistrates sitting at West Cumbria Courthouse made Brown the subject of a community order under which he is required to attend a six-month drug rehabilitation programme. Costs of £85 were also imposed.

Driver was uninsured

CLEATOR Moor resident Kristian Herbert has admitted two motoring offences.

The 25-year-old, of Keekle Terrace, pleaded guilty to having no licence or insurance for which a £100 fine and a £15 victim surcharge were imposed.

Garden party in village

A GARDEN party is being held in Bootle on Saturday.

The fun takes place at Bootle Rectory (or Captain Shaw’s School if the weather is wet) from 4pm to 6pm, followed by a short concert in St Michael’s Church featuring Sean Young and Jessie Conway.

On offer will be teas by Bootle WI, music from the junior section of the Holborn Hill Royal Brass Band, croquet, as well as face-painting and a raffle. Admission is £2.

Eyes down at Kells...

A PRIZE bingo takes place at Kells Legion, Whitehaven, on Monday (8pm) and money raised goes to St Mary’s Church, Kells.
