Conduct advisers
VOLUNTEERS are being sought by Copeland Council to act as advisers on councillor conduct.
From next month, parishes in Copeland will operate under a new code of conduct, following the introduction of the Localism act by the government.
The volunteers would be contacted before the council opens an investigation into allegations of improper conduct.
They would act as independent, impartial advisers on the conduct of councillors.
The role is voluntary but some expenses will be met.
Anyone interested in getting involved must not have been involved with the borough council or parish councils in Copeland in the past five years. Send an e-mail to tim.capper@cope-land.gov.uk with your details. The closing date is June 27.
Site visits
PLANNERS will visit the sites of three potential new housing developments in Copeland before making their decisions.
They will consider plans for a 66-home development at Hopedene, Mill Hill, Cleator Moor; 16 affordable homes at White School Close, Kells, Whitehaven; and a residential development on land adjacent to The Swang, Gosforth Road, Seascale (outline permission only).
Race night
A FUNDRAISING night is being held in aid of the North and West Cumbria branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association. The RAOB Grand Lodge of England West Cumbria is holding a race night in the Balmoral Hotel, Silloth, on Saturday, 7.30pm.
