Warning about fake £20 notes

FAKE £20 notes are being circulated across Whitehaven and Keswick, police have warned.

Officers in West Cumbria received a number of reports of the counterfeit money over the weekend, which had been used at a number of shops and businesses in the area.

Police believe the notes could also be used in other towns in the region.

Both businesses and members of the public are asked to be vigilant, and to always check their money.

Anyone who has been handed a fake £20 note is asked to call police on 101.

Jubilee event boosts NSPCC

A SOCIAL evening held at the Florence Mine Arts Centre, Egremont, raised £453 for the local NSPCC.

The Diamond Jubilee social evening included the viewing of a new film on the life of the Queen from early life to present day.

The Egremont committee of the NSPCC is grateful to their supporters and the centre for allowing the event to take place.

Plea for help

VOLUNTEERS are needed to help out at the Samaritan shop in Whitehaven.

Margaret, who is a volunteer, said: “If you have three hours a week to spare and would like to make a difference in your community, come along and join our friendly, motivated team of volunteers.

“On-the-job training, in a friendly atmosphere, is given.’’

Outreach help

ICAS, the Carers’ Federation, which offers a free and independent advocacy service to those with a complaint against the NHS, is holding monthly outreach sessions at the Citizens’ Advice Bureau at Tangier Buildings, Whitehaven.

They are on Mondays, July 2, and August 6 (10am to 1pm).

School break-in

ST James’ Infants School in Whitehaven has suffered a break-in.

Two children’s scooters were stolen from a storage shed.

Police have asked neighbours to be vigilant and report anything suspicious to them, on 101.
