Man admits beating woman

A WHITEHAVEN man has been ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work following a string of offences.

Richard Paul Grearson, 27, of Snaefell Terrace, Seacliffe, admitted assaulting a woman by beating. He also admitted damaging a double-glazed window belonging to Home Group and damaging a coffee table belonging to the woman.

The case against Grearson was heard at West Cumbria Courthouse last week.

He was ordered to complete a 12-month community order, with 150 hours of unpaid work. He must also pay £200 compensation to the woman and £155.87 compensation to Home Group.

Bird society sets up Facebook site

A FACEBOOK group for the Whitehaven Cage Bird Society has been set up – and people are invited to join.

David Doyle, assistant secretary of the society, said: “If anyone is interested in caged birds and would like to join us, they can do so by searching ‘Whitehaven Cbs’ and adding us as a friend.”

A website is also being developed by the society for people interested in caged birds.

Drugs fine

AN Egremont man was fined for possessing a Class B drug.

David Robert Harrison, 40, of The Hollies, Egremont, admitted possessing cannabis. He has also pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

The cases were heard at West Cumbria Courthouse last week. Harrison was ordered to pay fines of £90, with £85 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
