Work done on former bus depot

MAINTENANCE work has been taking place at Whitehaven’s former bus station.

A Copeland Council spokesperson said bird faeces have been cleared and survey work is being done to check the quality of the building.

The work is being completed by the Torquay-based company Whitehaven Marina, which owns the building.

In August 2009, an outline planning application was approved to demolish the derelict bus station on Bransty Row and replace it with underground car parking with 60 spaces and 56 apartments above.

Woman seriously injured in attack

A WOMAN suffered what police describe as “serious facial injuries” following an assault in Whitehaven town centre.

A man, 21, and a woman, 25, both from Cleator Moor, were attacked on Senhouse Street between 1am and 1.15am in the early hours of Monday morning.

The woman was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary for surgery on her injuries.

A 19-year-old Whitehaven man was arrested on suspicion of assault and released on bail pending further enquiries.

Witnesses are asked to telephone 101.

Sew successful

PATCHWORK and quilting group, Calder Sew & Sews, has raised £550 in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The donation is the result of a raffle of an autumn-coloured patchwork quilt made by members. The group has expressed its thanks to all involved and those who bought tickets.

Cars damaged

POLICE in Copeland are investigating a number of incidents of damage to cars.

A Peugeot had its wing mirror damaged while parked at Inkerman Terrace, Whitehaven, between 7pm on April 1 and 7.30am the following morning. Also in Whitehaven, a Vauxhall Zafira had a window damaged while parked on Gable Road between 12.30am and 8.40am on April 6.

And in Egremont, a Skoda Octavia parked at Brisco Road, Egremont, had its rear window smashed overnight on April 5/6.

Television stolen

A LARGE LCD television set was stolen from a house at The Rowans, Egremont, just after midday on Thursday.

DC Chris Harper is appealing for anyone with information about the burglary to contact her on 101. She also reminded the public to ensure their doors are locked overnight.

Rods stolen

A SHED was broken into in Bootle. Fishing rods were stolen in the break-in at Summerhill on Friday afternoon.
