Sponsors want to help clubs
THE Howgate Table Table eaterie at Howgate, Whitehaven, is looking for a local club or sports team to sponsor in 2012.
It could be a football team, dance troupe, pottery class or book club – any group that could do with a £500 boost for either new equipment, a new kit for the summer, a lick of paint for the clubhouse or who just need help paying the bills.
Helen Lavery, of Howgate, said: “The local community is really important to us.’’
Those interested in applying should visit www.tabletable.co.uk/ KitForClubs and fill out a short form or call at the restaurant.
School earns its Fairtrade status
ST Benedict’s School in Whitehaven is celebrating receiving its Fairtrade status.
The school and its steering group’s commitment to the Fairtrade motto and its active programme of events has been recognised with the renewal of the award.
Events in school to promote the Fairtrade campaign have included a Go Bananas Day in which teachers took part in a series of I’m a Celebrity-style bush tucker trials.
In awarding the school its Fairtrade status, the assessor said: “Great to see such a variety of activities taking place to enrich the students both in school and in the wider community. This is one of the best submissions I have seen but even more important is the diversity of activities. Fantastic work.”
