Homes hit by power cut
NEARLY 2,000 homes were affected by a power cut in the Mirehouse area last week.
The loss of power to 1,985 properties was caused by an underground cable fault. Electricity North West said the problem was reported just after 11pm on Wednesday night and all the properties were back on by 3am the following morning.
A spokesperson said engineers were called out to fix the problem and power returned to the homes in stages.
He added: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
Man, 23, died at his home
AN inquest has been opened into the death of a 23-year-old Mirehouse man.
Michael Robert Hetherington, of Laterigg Road, died at his home on March 22.
Police were called at around 10.08pm following reports of a sudden death. He was identified by his father, Michael Hetherington.
Coroner David Roberts opened the inquest and adjourned it for a date to be fixed. The cause of Mr Hetherington’s death is unknown.
Minibus funds boosted by fair
AN Easter Fair has boosted Gosforth School’s fundraising for a new minibus.
NSG Environmental Ltd supported the school in its fundraising by organising the fair on March 25, and also a quiz night in the Santon Bridge Inn on March 13.
Monies raised totalled just over £900 which will go a long way in helping the school achieve its target. Once purchased, the minibus will be used by both Gosforth and Seascale Primary Schools.
