Turbine agreed

A NEW wind turbine has been given the go-ahead at Bigrigg, near Egremont.

Land at Springfield Farm will be the site for 22.5-metre high single turbine. The wind energy generated will power the applicant’s farm.

Members of Copeland Council’s planning panel approved the plans last Wednesday. Planners heard that no objections were received by neighbours, and the site is mainly covered by trees meaning that the turbine will only be viewed “in glimpses” from the A595.

Meanwhile, planners have requested site visits before deciding on two further wind turbine plans.

Land at Drigg Moorside Farm (Holmrook) and Yeorton Hall Farm (Haile, Egremont) have each been earmarked for a single turbine.

Good Friday Walk

THE churches in Whitehaven are holding their annual Good Friday Walk on April 6.

The Journey of the Cross starts at 10am at Holy Trinity Gardens. The walk will process to St Nicholas’ Gardens, remembering the events of Good Friday in prayer, readings and hymns.

Family fun day

A FAMILY fun day in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance is to be held at The Distressed Sailor, Hensingham, on Easter Monday. The event, from noon to 4pm, will include a barbecue, Easter bonnets, stalls and a bouncy castle.

Awards for trust

THE trust which hopes to take over West Cumberland Hospital has won two regional awards for improving the quality and safety of patient care.

The chief executive of Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust, Jim Mackey, was recognised for his leadership of improvements across the North East and the trust was praised for its work to reduce infections following operations.

Dyslexia meeting

THE next meeting of the West Cumbria Dyslexic Association takes place on April 17 at 7pm.

It’s the second meeting organised by the group, to which dyslexic adults are invited to meet individuals with similar experiences to support one another and explore the help that is available.
