Motorist, 33, banned
A MOTORIST has been banned from the road for six months for his “repeat offending”.
Andrew Robinson’s latest offences were driving without an MoT certificate, to which he pleaded guilty, and driving without insurance, which magistrates found proved. The incidents took place on June 3.
Further to the ban, Robinson, 33, of Yew Bank Road, Whitehaven, must pay fines totalling £150 plus £50 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
Driver used mobile phone
ROWRAH resident Alan Fleming has been found guilty of using a mobile phone while driving.
He denied the offence, said to have taken place on Inkerman Terrace, Whitehaven, on January 11 this year, but was found guilty after a trial this week.
Fleming, 48, must pay a £85 fine plus £300 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
20-month ban for drink-driver
A MOTORIST has been banned from the road after being caught drink-driving at more than three times the legal limit.
Eric Dodgson’s car struck a garden fence on Meadow Road, Whitehaven, on September 30 and he fled the scene.
On his arrest, Dodgson, of Brisco Mount, Egremont, provided a reading of 113mcgms of alcohol in 100mls of breath; the limit is 35.
Appearing in court this week, Dodgson admitted drink-driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
He was banned from driving for 20 months and must complete 90 hours of unpaid work. Court costs of £85 were also imposed.
Coffee and cake charity event
COFFEE and cake can be enjoyed at Seascale Methodist Church Hall on Saturday – all in the name of charity.
Proceeds from the event, held from 10am to noon, will go to Macmillan Cancer Support; entrance is £1. There will also be a raffle and parcel stall.
Without due care
A THORNHILL woman has admitted two motoring offences.
Shalene Gilpin, 39, of New Road, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention and not having an MoT certificate.
She must pay fines totalling £105 plus £50 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
Disorderly fine
JOHN Lopes, 22, of Moor Place, Frizington, has been fined £40 after he admitted being drunk and disorderly in Duke Street, Whitehaven, Costs of £50 were also imposed.
