Pub changes

NEW tenants are being sought for The Dusty Miller pub in Whitehaven.

The pub closed suddenly earlier this year, however agents Trust Inns has now advertised for new tenants to take over the running of the “busy town centre market pub” in an “up-and-coming redevelopment.”

The Dusty Miller closed in July and has been standing empty since.

A spokeswoman for Trust Inns, which is based at Chorley, said that the pub needed to have refurbishments carried out before advertising for new tenants.

Pan fire

FIREFIGHTERS were called out to a flat on Scotch Street, Whitehaven, last Wednesday. It followed reports at around 10.20am that a pan which had been left on the cooker started to give off smoke. Crews isolated the cooker.

Rubbish fire

WHITEHAVEN firefighters extinguished a rubbish fire on a playing field in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Crews were called to the field, near Valley View Road, Greenbank, at around 12.55am to put out the fire.

Poppy ride

THE great Cumbrian poppy ride will arrive at Whitehaven’s harbour on Saturday, October 27.

Now in its third year, around 40/50 bikers are due to land at the Hub at around 11am to launch the poppy appeal. The Mayor of Copeland will welcome the bikers, part of the rider’s branch of The Royal British Legion.

Flood risks

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a flooding incident last Friday at School Brow, Moresby Parks. Flood water was threatening three properties so the firefighters used pumps to disperse the water.
