Officers spot wildlife crimes

CUMBRIA Police investigated 183 reports of poaching and 44 hunting issues over the last 12 months.

A team of 13 wildlife crime officers work across the force.

There were also 24 offences against badgers investigated by the officers and nine offences involving persecution of bird of prey.

Wildlife crime officer PC John Shaw said: “The work we do can involve anything from investigating crimes involving rare and precious birds and wildlife, to checking on the origin of rhino horns to ensure that no crimes have been committed.”

AN evening with photographer Val Corbett will be held to raise cash for Hospice at Home West Cumbria.

The event will be held on Friday, October 26, at Gosforth Public Hall from 7.30pm.

POLICE are appealing for information after thieves stole ten car batteries from the Cumbria Waste Management centre at Frizington.

The batteries were taken during the evening of October 5.

Vandals sought

POLICE officers in Seascale are investigating after stones were thrown at Windscale Boat Club’s building.
