THE National Skills Academy for Nuclear, in partnership with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), is rolling out a seventh round of its high successful Nuclear Bursary Award Scheme.

This latest round of the bursary scheme is aimed at quality individuals on programmes of study relevant to the nuclear industry with a particular emphasis on nuclear professionalism.

Relevant courses of study include Honours Degrees, Masters Degree, Post graduate and CPD qualifications such as the Certificate of Nuclear Professionalism.

The ONR Report on the Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami – Implications for the UK Nuclear Industry, highlighted a number of recommendations for the nuclear industry in the UK.

Of particular importance to the skills for nuclear agenda is recommendation 11, which focused on nuclear professionalism.

Through previous rounds, 185 students across the UK have successfully secured funding to help with their chosen courses of study.

The value of the award is determined by the strength and relevance of the applicant in fulfilling the aims of the programme.

The awards given are in the region of £500 to £3,000, dependant on effectively fulfilling the application criteria and are for learners studying with a provider from the Skills Academy’s High Quality Provider Network.

Jean Llewellyn, chief executive of the National Skills Academy Nuclear, said: “I am very pleased to be able to offer a seventh round of this bursary award scheme. Each round of the bursary award has had a particular emphasis.

“For this round it was decided that we would highlight the one of the recommendations from the Weightman Report, which is why we have decided that this round of bursaries will focus on nuclear professionalism.

“The applications received in all of the previous rounds have been of very high quality, and highlighted the need for further roll out of this much needed bursary scheme.

“It is very pleasing to see that the NDA are continuing to support this scheme, supporting the sector to attract quality candidates and developing the nuclear professionals of the future.”

“I have been extremely impressed with the quality of previous applications and the results which are now leading to very capable and well qualified individuals entering or developing their careers within the industry.”

To apply, individuals can download the application form and scoring criteria from www.nuclear.nsacademy.co.uk. All forms are to be received by the Skills Academy no later than 4pm on August 20.

The organisers would welcome applications from both new students and students part way through their course.
