New A595 crossings may be on the cards

SAFETY schemes could be on the horizon for the A595 at Parton and the Pelican Garage after a petition.
Siobhan Gearing has collected 400 signatures and last week had a “very positive meeting” with the Highways Agency (HA).
Jonathan Reade, asset manager for the agency, said a survey will be carried out at the Pelican.
The agency has also agreed, in principle, to putting a traffic island on the A595/Parton Brow junction, although there are concerns over where to put it.
“We don’t have any difficulty with the idea but would need to come to an agreement with the county council,” said Mr Reade.
Mrs Gearing said: “I am pleased with how positive the meeting was, and I think they have realised something needs to be done.”

Have your say
Why not sortout the roads problem completely and create a bypass such that the through traffic have a different route to get to and from Sellafield? Why are the Cumbiran councils so scared to go cap in hand for money from the London Government? they can spend billions on a crossrail link and we can get a big fat NOWT from them.
Very dangerous intersection - Loop Rd North A595/New Rd A5094/ Rannerdale drive/service station/ bus stop/ New Rd to A595 lane. Why not put the bus stop in the triangular grassed area North of the service station (Pelican)? Thus pedestrians can get to it from East & West sides and traffic flow eased as buses currently park opposite Rannerdale Dr. Junction.
