THIS year’s Whitehaven Diamond Jubilee Festival is attracting national media interest from the likes of The Daily Telegraph to the Sunday People.

Amidst Katie Hind’s People gossip column featuring the latest on Wayne Rooney, Carol Vorderman and Kasabian is mention of the festival.

She writes: “I’m looking forward to the Jubilee Weekend at the Whitehaven Festival from June 1 to 3. Headline acts over the weekend include Katherine Jenkins, The Enemy and The Charlatans. And I’m told there will be some amazing food with some of the UK's top chefs including Jean Christophe Novelli and Ainsley Harriott. There are a lot of festivals this summer but I reckon this one will be a corker.”

And Steve Harley (who will be performing at the Best of the 70s concert) has been talking to the Telegraph about his favourite holiday destinations – and also managed to mention that he is looking forward to headlining the Saturday night of this year’s Whitehaven Festival.

There will be plenty of media interest which this year includes Sky filming a documentary with the jet ski team and Channel 5 filming for The Great Northern Cookbook programme with former Coronation Street star Sean Wilson.

“The Whitehaven Festival Company was set up to do two things – increase the economic viability of the area through tourism and also to market Whitehaven,” said Gerard Richardson, festival organiser. “Now we are starting to break out of regional media to national media. The Whitehaven Festival is literally world class,” he added.

IT’S just over three weeks until the Whitehaven Festival and don’t forget to bake your jubilee cakes to be judged by one of the celebrity chefs.

There will be points for both taste and also appearance and the subject is the jubilee.

The same contact points are open to anyone wants to help out by volunteering over the weekend. People are needed to sell programmes and wristbands as well as other tasks.

Wristbands are also on sale which allow access to the Sugar Tongue where you will find celebrity chefs (Jean Christophe Novelli and Ainsley Harriott); celebrity appearances (Coronation Street star Michelle Collins and Strictly Come Dancing’s Anton du Beke), Titan the Robot, tall ships, and various stalls.
