Nation awaits Mark Steel's take on Whitehaven...

A NATION is on the edge of its seat, waiting to hear what comedian Mark Steel thinks of Whitehaven. But it won't have to wait long to find out...
Mark is best known for his caustic take on politics, society and the state of the nation, but in a series of visits here in late summer he turned his attentions to Whitehaven. The acclaimed stand-up, author and columnist on The Independent newspaper recorded the latest show in his Radio 4 series Mark Steel’s In Town at the Rosehill Theatre.
And his findings get an airing when the series kicks off on BBC Radio 4 at 6.30pm on Wednesday (November 28).
The idea of the series is for him to visit quirky and overlooked places, learn about their history and the people who live there and then give his verdict.
Speaking before his Rosehill appearance in September, he said: “I was keen to come to Whitehaven because it’s a tucked-away place – a little secret in many ways – as a lot of people visit the Lake District, but perhaps not to Whitehaven. It’s about finding distinct places with a lot of character, and Whitehaven is certainly one of those.”
