N-waste opinion poll criticised

THE opinion poll into West Cumbrian people’s views on a search for somewhere to bury highly radioactive nuclear waste has been dismissed by a university think tank.

Have your say

There seems to be some ignorance as to what an opinion poll is. The likes of IPSOS MORI are perfeectly capable of putting together a struictured sample that gives a representative result - far more so than a few parish councillors, many of whom got on unopposed, i.e. representing only themselves.

Regardless of consultation the Repository will be built near Sellafield.

What should be of concern is the eventual multiple the final cost will be over that projected relative to the level given for approval. It already has a 100% contingency admitted, but is unlikely to be enough.

Every project related to Sellafield has cost multiples over the original estimates.

There is a petition opposing the diabolic plan to dump radioactive wastes under Cumbria.

Please support and circulate..

Britain's Energy Coast?

More like Britain's Nuclear Dump!

Again, another Councillor emersed in the nuclear industry thinking of the short term financial gains and not the long term ecological impact.

As seen on Country File on Sunday night, surveys in the 1990s proved the geology in Cumbria isn't suitable in Cumbria so why are we going over the same old ground 15 years later?

Pity we haven't got innovative people representing us with ideas for the betterment of the region that aren't all centred around one thing that offers an easy quick buck. Its all nuclear, nuclear, nuclear.

What an idiotic statement by Tim Knowles, Chairman of MRWS in response to this research! "..Only 8% of adults in Copeland and 11 % in Allerdale saying they have never heard of the process.." Only a tiny minority of people were invited to give their opinion by this poll, only 3,000 people across Cumbria, when the population of Whitehaven alone is around 26,000! This is a brazen example of MRWS presenting statistics in a way that ensures their view is seen as the popular one. I am outraged that Tim Knowles and associates are treating us like fools, if they think the people of West Cumbria are just going to lie down and wait for the bulldozers to come, just because they tell us they phoned a few people here and there and of those polled most people went "yeah ok then " The lack of effort in engaging the public in this issue has been astonishing and reprehensible. I am so angry that this decision is being treated as a foregone conclusion based on the shabby and underhand way these opinion poll results have been gathered and presented.
