A MEMORIAL service is being held in St Bees for a former Whitehaven Grammar School pupil.
Scott Woods, who became a professor at the University of Montana, USA, sadly died at the age of 45.
His funeral was held in America but a special service is being held at St Bees Priory, in the village where Scott grew up and where his father, Bill, lives. It takes place on Monday, May 28, at 2.30pm.
Scott, a former pupil of St Bees Village School, was diagnosed with lung cancer which he fiercely fought.
He climbed Mount Rainier (14,411ft), in Washington, in 2010, after undergoing two years of intensive chemotherapy. Scott raised money and awareness for the Fit to Fight programme which helps those with cancer regain some physical fitness.
He leaves a wife Sarah and son Rylan.
