A MILLOM man roamed the streets with a 12-inch knife before threatening to stab a police officer.

Martin Alan Lambillion appeared before Furness Magistrates’ Court last Thursday, charged with possession of a knife in a public place and a public order offence for using a threat of violence.

Lambillion, 35, of King Street, Millom, pleaded guilty to both charges.

A previous charge of affray was replaced with the public order charge.

On April 27, Lambillion had been drinking when he bumped into friends who were going to the Peel Hotel in Bedford Street, Millom. Lambillion joined them but was involved in an argument and was asked to leave.

Just after 8.15pm, he was seen by a resident wandering in alleyways between Newton Street and Wellington Street carrying two knives, blades facing forward. Police were called and Lambillion was spotted close to his home and officers went to his address.

Lisa Hine, prosecuting, said: “He said he’d been to the Peel and someone had started on him. The officer asked if the defendant had any knives on him. He kept saying that he would sort it out and someone would pay for causing him grief.

“He became aggressive and shouted ‘You will never take me, I will batter you’. He then threatened to stab the officer and made a lunge towards him.”

Lambillion claimed he had borrowed the knives for a barbecue from his mother-in-law and had decided to return them.

Karen Templeton, defending, said: “He went to the pub and ended up getting chased out of the pub. He recalls wandering round with the knives and feeling angry.

“He remembers taking the knives out to return them to his mother-in-law. There was a correct time to do this and he realised this was not the correct time.”

Lambillion was granted bail and told he must remain at home from 8pm to 7am and not to enter the Peel Hotel.

He is due to be sentenced at Lancaster Crown Court on June 1.
