A MAN from Cleator Moor has been found dead on a footpath close to his home.
Gary Murphy, 29, was found by a walker at 7am on Monday. Paramedics attended but Mr Murphy was pronounced dead on the scene.
The walker made the discovery on a secluded Cleator Moor footpath that runs for around 100 yards, leaving Bowthorn Road close to the Panda House Chinese takeaway, leading to the Mill Hill estate where Mr Murphy lived at The Hawthorns.
An area of the footpath, a popular route with walkers, was cordoned off with police tape following the discovery.
It is understood that Mr Murphy’s concerned family contacted the police when he had failed to return home on Monday morning.
Police officers say they are treating Mr Murphy’s death as “unexplained but not suspicious”. The case has been passed to the coroner’s department.
